One of the most elegant women I've ever seen wore a burka.
We've crossed a few times, in Beit-Hanina, on the road by the football field. Me on the way to the office, she out on some errand, her handbag on the right arm, steady but light steps, like if she barely touched the ground. I remember thinking she might look much more interesting to men than I did... :)
I used to think using a burka was awful, an abuse of authority etc etc. But some women actually feel protected using a burka (which, I agree, doesn't say much about their fellow countrymen or about the foreign men who visit those countries...).
