Heidelberg University children’s clinic is where kids such as Sarah Boedecker, whose kidneys no-longer function properly, come for dialysis, a medical procedure that cleans the blood.
Sarah’s due for a kidney and liver transplant at the end of the year. In the meantime she has to come here for six hours, three times a week.
She told me she was excited at the prospect of having a new kidney, getting back to school to take her exams and then, perhaps, having a chance to travel.
But not everyone on dialysis now needs to visit the hospital every other day..."
